From the ordinary to the memorable: the power of targeted enhancements
When it comes to tourist rentals, every detail counts. And sometimes, it only takes a few targeted interventions to radically transform a guest's perception of a home. This is precisely the case with our Asfodeli Apartment, which has been transformed from simple and functional into a cosy, modern and decidedly more desirable space.
Sometimes you don't need major renovations to breathe new life into a flat. This two-room flat in Portisco is proof of this: just a few changes are enough to completely change the atmosphere.

Before: a house that worked, but didn't hit
...what do you think is missing? What would you have added to make the environment more welcoming?
The flat was well located, complete with essential services and always kept in order.
However, it lacked that personal touch, that warm and cared-for atmosphere that travellers today seek to feel truly 'at home'. The walls were bare, the furniture a little dated and the overall style did not convey a clear identity. Modern, yes, but a little sad.
A sofa, a sideboard with a TV. No carpet, no armchair, no painting: the room was practical, but lacked personality, soul.
Restyling: small changes, big results
We decided to invest in:
- Repainting the walls in bright colours reminiscent of the sea to give an immediate feeling of freshness and brightness.
- New and functional furniture, selected with a modern and consistent style: from the most comfortable sofa bed to the outdoor teak dining table with comfortable armchairs. The interior mirror gives a feeling of spaciousness, the modern armchair and a soft rug.
- Decorative details such as paintings, carpets, plants and warm light spots made the room cosier.
- Improved bed and bath linen, with quality fabrics and matching colours.

...now come in and... wow!
Certain transformations speak for themselves. This flat, initially characterised by essential furnishings, bare walls and a neutral style, has been completely redesigned to offer a warmer, cosier and more locally inspired living experience.
In the 'after', the space opens up with a new energy: a turquoise-coloured wall immediately brings freshness and recalls the tones of the sea, creating a bright and lively effect. The sofa has been replaced with a modern plain-coloured model, embellished with decorative cushions with sea motifs. The white, light curtains, with light blue details and typical Sardinian craftsmanship, filter the natural light giving a sense of calm and airiness.
A large mirror and new prints on the walls amplify the perception of the space, while a light wood designer chair and a natural fibre rug add a contemporary and cosy touch. The TV cabinet, which has been retained, has been enhanced with a fresh orchid and a more curated composition.
Instantly, the living room breathes, seems bigger, brighter, more alive.
And then the terrace: the table has been renovated, the chairs replaced with more comfortable and cosy models. A space that was previously little used has now become the perfect place to have breakfast while gazing at the sea or enjoying a glass of wine at sunset.
The bedroom? Same concept. A coloured wall behind the bed, a few small changes in the furniture arrangement, and immediately the room becomes an elegant and relaxing retreat.
The 'after': more bookings, better reviews and satisfied guests
The results were not long in coming:
- The rate of bookings increased, particularly during the mid-season.
- We received much more enthusiastic reviews, with comments praising the décor, comfort and general atmosphere.
- Guests began to treat the accommodation with more respect, perhaps because they perceived more value.
Conclusion: aesthetics do matter!
This intervention taught us that caring for the environment is not just an aesthetic issue, but a strategic one. A home that communicates warmth and care is more easily booked, gets better reviews and offers an experience that guests will remember with pleasure.
